Groundswell is built by people who believe the ocean heals and who show up every week to create safer, braver spaces for individuals and communities to access trauma-informed surf therapy. Our team has always reflected the communities we serve, women, people of color, LGBTQ+ individuals, and clinicians with lived experience of trauma. That is core to our roots and it will continue to be.

Clinical internship at the beach.
Groundswell's clinical internship offers emerging clinicians the opportunity to deepen their therapeutic practice through somatic, surf, eco-, play, group, and expressive arts therapy, co-facilitating surf therapy programs for diverse communities in San Diego. All staff receive training, supervision, and certification in the Groundswell Surf Therapy™ model.
Who this is for
Associates and practicum students working toward licensure as an LMFT, LCSW, or LPCC. People with diverse backgrounds that reflect the communities Groundswell serves. If you're curious, humble, and committed to embodied, community-centered healing, we invite you to apply.
Many of our interns are now associates running programs for Groundswell.

Groundswell has always been powered by our volunteer and intern community. If you have skills you would love to share — whether that is photography, research, social work, grant writing, or just showing up at the beach — we want to hear from you. There may not be a role right now, but there might be something in the future.

We are looking for people who are aligned with our mission that would like to join our board of directors. We are particularly interested in connecting with people who bring experience in healthcare, law, finance, marketing, or community advocacy, as well as people with lived experience with the communities Groundswell serves.
