Are you passionate about mental health, ocean healing, and community care? Do you envision holding space for others to find connection, empowerment, and joy through surfing? The Groundswell Surf Therapy™ Facilitator Pathway may be your next wave.

Groundswell’s Surf Therapy™ trainings offer a pathway for personal growth and professional skill-building through ocean-based healing. Rooted in somatic, eco-therapy, and community-centered practices, each level supports participants in developing nervous system awareness, embodied facilitation skills, and the confidence to hold safe, inclusive surf therapy spaces. Led by licensed clinicians and experienced practitioners, the trainings provide practical tools, curricula, and community support to bring surf therapy into service of your unique community

Level 1 Surf Therapy For Trauma Recovery

Level 1 Surf Therapy For Trauma Recovery

is an immersive introduction to trauma-informed surf therapy for therapists, students, surf coaches, and ocean-connected community members. This training explores the neuroscience of trauma, somatic healing practices, and the ocean’s role as a powerful co-regulator, offering tools that can be felt in the body and carried into the water. Through reflection, community learning, and beach-to-sea practices, participants build a strong foundation for holding safe, healing surf therapy spaces.

Level 2 Surf Therapy Facilitator Training

is designed for those actively facilitating or preparing to launch surf therapy programs and seeking to deepen their skills as trauma-informed practitioners. This training focuses on creating physically and psychologically safe surf therapy spaces using somatic, mindfulness-based, arts, nature, and community-centered approaches. Participants receive practical curricula, facilitator tools, workbooks and journal exercises, templated paperwork, consultation support, and community connection to confidently lead surf therapy offerings rooted in care, integrity, and embodiment.

Provider Training

An Immersive Training for Aspiring & Emerging Surf Therapy Facilitators

Level 3 Surf Therapy Provider Training is a six-month, immersive training for experienced and aspiring surf therapy facilitators ready to bring trauma-informed ocean-based healing to their communities, blending weekly live workshops, embodied practice sessions, and small group supervision. Throughout the program you’ll deeply learn, practice, and embody the full Groundswell Surf Therapy™ model — from somatics and eco-therapy to cultural responsiveness and facilitation identity — while receiving personalized mentorship and practical tools to launch your work. Graduates gain a Groundswell certificate, CEUs, ongoing community access, and the confidence to hold safe, braver surf therapy spaces rooted in body, nature, and community.
