Jen Pate

Jen grew up playing in the waters at the heart of the Great Lakes in Canada. Her studies led to an MSc specializing in human–environment interaction, laying the foundation for nearly two decades of expeditions, non-profit projects, business, and facilitation rooted in exploring our relationship with the natural world ~ especially on, in, and around the water.

Through lived experience of trauma, caregiving, and mortality, Jen’s work has evolved toward helping individuals navigate significant change ~ discovering relief, building resilience, and opening toward renewal by recreating our relationship with being human. She works as a Life & Death Transition Guide, bringing together personal experience with professional training as a trauma-informed meditation and mindfulness teacher, death doula, and nature-based recreational therapy provider, deeply supported by Groundswell’s Facilitator Training.

At the core of her approach is the belief that when we remember that we are nature, and open ourselves to nurture this truth mentally, emotionally, physically, relationally and spiritually ~ we can cultivate the capacity to live and die with greater clarity, calm, and courage. Her work has globally supported over 20,000 people in safely and meaningfully experiencing lakes, rivers, and oceans as liminal spaces for inviting deeper interconnection with, and conscious care for, ourselves, each other and the natural world we are part of ~ while we’re here
